Down came the Hammer

Van Halen was signed to Warner Bros. in 1978. Which started the Sunset Strip explosion with bands like Quiet Riot, Motley Crue, Ratt, W.A.S.P., Dokken and others. Everything began to change once the " Power Ballad" became a way to get on the charts. The 80s rock formula, first single rockin , followed by a power ballad. Pretty soon they all had power ballads and all began to sound the same. Which pretty much ended the scene and opened up the doors to the Seattle grunge scene.
Here are some bands the 80s could have done without ( in my opinion):
Enuff z Nuff
Danger Danger
Winger
Trixter
Jailhouse
Britney Fox
Bullet Boys
Kingdom Come
Kix
Shotgun Messiah
Pretty Boy Floyed
Quierboys
Steal Heart
Firehouse
Stryper
Loudness
L.A. Guns
Warrant
House of Lords
Vinnie Vincent Invasion
Slaughter
Krokus
Europe
Can you think of anymore?

  2. HAHA! That list could be ALOT longer, LOL. Well said, I miss the days of good music on the radio, thank god for my iPod. What the hell happened? I find myself even missing cheesy songs I used to think was annoying, simply because at least some of that old stuff had substance.

  3. 80's metal was about decadence, debauchery and hedonism. One can argue that it was an inevitable evolution of the counter-culture that blossomed in the 60's proving that rebellion begets further rebellion regardless of cause, or perhaps it was a response from the decade's own youth to the frustrations of the time. Regardless, it certainly made for some fantastic childhood memories and some serious adolescent fantasies.

  4. This was when music was art. It wasn't about synthesized beats, bad singers and corny dance moves. It was back when you had to know how to sing and with plenty of attitude to back it up, and know how to master the instruments. I miss these days. Thank God for the iPod indeed!!
